10-speed automatic transmission and engine brake
V8 diesel engines deliver their power through an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. Compared to a 6-speed, 10-speed transmission delivers improved overall performance with increased acceleration at low and medium speeds. Features include optimized wide-span spacing, drag reduction and three-speed gears. In addition, you can choose from optional modes: Normal, Tow-Haul, Snow-Wet, EcoSelect and Sport ENGINE BRAKE. The 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine is equipped with a driver-activated engine and exhaust brake. It restricts the exhaust flow of the turbocharger to create back pressure and decelerate the vehicle, and provides better control when driving downhill, regardless of the load on the vehicle or the SLOPE of the road. Also, because the engine brake helps minimize the need to depress the pedal, brake wilting and lining wear are reduced, which reduces maintenance costs. There are three settings: On, Off and Automatic. The Auto setting modulates engine braking as needed and helps maintain the desired speed based on the use of the accelerator and brake pedal.
Extremely strong, steel frame
The fully "boxed" frame is made of more strong steel (up to 78%) and larger cross-sections than the frame in the previous generation.
