Hardening the aluminum alloy by heat treatment provides greater strength. Working with an aluminum alloy also allows designers to increase the thickness when needed to achieve extra strength without adding weight. The more powerful F-150 weighs up to 317 kg less than the previous generation, resulting in a higher power-to-weight ratio, better fuel efficiency, plus available payload in its class.
5.0 V8 Coyote last generation
The available V8 5.0L Coyote engine provides the excellent performance and capabilities of a classic V8 engine: 5,900 kg of towing power - great news if you do a lot of towing for work or recreation. The possibility of loading up to 1500 kg and 400 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 560 N/m of torque already at 3250 rpm. This legendary Coyote Ford V8 with a 10-speed transmission provides everything you need, plus a best-in-class maximum payload of up to 1500 kg. Experience a robust 400 horsepower and 560 N/m of torque, with highly sophisticated Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT), as well as Ford's Fuel Delivery and Direct Injection (PFDI) system with two injectors per cylinder - one in the air intake, one inside the cylinder - to boost performance. And new VDE (Variable Displacement Engine) technology allows the engine to shut down half the cylinders when full power is not required
10-speed automatic transmission
F-150 EcoBoost®, V8 and diesel engines deliver their power through an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the 6-speed, the 10-speed transmission delivers improved overall performance with increased low- and mid-range acceleration. Features include optimized gear spacing with a wide spread, drag reduction and three speed ratios. In addition, you can choose from optional modes: Normal, Tow-Haul, Snow-Wet, EcoSelect and Sport.
Extremely strong, steel frame
The fully "box" frame is made of more solid steel (up to 78%) and larger cross-sections than the frame in the previous generation. And while this frame is stronger and stiffer, it's also up to 27kg lighter, as many components are manufactured using a state-of-the-art rolling process that minimizes weight.
