Hardening the aluminum alloy through heat treatment provides greater strength. Working with aluminum alloy also allows designers to increase thickness when needed to achieve extra strength without adding weight. The stronger F-150 weighs up to 700 pounds less than the previous generation, resulting in a higher power-to-weight ratio, better fuel efficiency, plus a class-leading payload.

The proven Predator 5.2L Supercharged V8 engine, used in the Mustang Shelby GT 500, has found its way into the Ford F-150 Raptor R, where it delivers an impressive 720 HP and 920 Nm of torque. The 2.65L supercharger with a maximum boost pressure of 12 PSI gives the car a unique driving pleasure and enough power for off-road adventures or towing heavy loads.

The third-generation Raptor has reinforced and more durable Fox Racing Shox sport shock absorbers with Live Valve technology, which, based on data collected from sensors located on the vehicle and the selected driving mode, adjusts the stiffness and behavior of the shock absorbers. TORQUE-ON-DEMAND 4×4 drive combines the advantages of a switched all-wheel drive mode with a classic mechanical lock. The system switches all-wheel drive before the front axle slips. Electronic rear differential lock and Torsen 4.10 front differential. The Terrain Management system offers six different engine, transmission, traction control, ABS and AdvanceTrac stability control settings.

The fully boxed frame is made with more solid steel (up to 78%) and larger cross-sections than the previous generation. And while this frame is stronger and stiffer, it's also up to 27kg lighter, as many components are made using a state-of-the-art rolling process that minimises weight.
