Ford Mustang 1970 convertible SHELBY GT350

In 1969, the GTs lost their Cobra designation and were once again sold simply as the Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500.

The GT350 and GT500 received an extensive facelift for the 1969 model year, with the body itself lengthened by 4 inches (100 mm), with some reaching 10 inches (250 mm).

Ford was involved in design and styling decisions, with Shelby having little influence. The GT350 was now equipped with the 8 cubic inch V351 engine. Carroll Shelby terminated his contract with Ford in the summer of 1969. Thus, production of the 1970 Shelby GT1969 and 350 models did not begin; however, unsold 1969 models were given 1970 VINs under FBI surveillance. The 1970 models had two cosmetic changes, a front chin spoiler and two black hood stripes. The rest of the changes concerned emissions. The GT500 had the carburetor modified and marked "ed" (modified) on the nameplate. The distributor in both the GT 350 and GT500 was changed to the 1970 version. A total of 789 were delivered this way and that is this particular car.

This car is in original condition, so it shows the patina of its age and that makes it even more valuable! The story with the termination of Carroll Shelby's contract and the subsequent action with the FBI and ... makes these cars a much sought after gem!

While the 1969 Shelby cars were much more focused on looks than previous years, Shelby American still managed to create a better looking and more powerful platform that lived up to the reputation their previous cars had earned. Unfortunately, however, Carroll Shelby terminated his contract with Ford in the summer of 1969, which meant that no cars were produced for the 1970 model year. Rather, the remaining 1969 models were given new VIN numbers and sold as 1970 models with minor cosmetic changes. A total of 1,282 were produced that year, of which only 350 were Shelby GT1969s, including 1,086 fastbacks and 196 convertibles.
